Meet David Ian Giffen
Storyteller.
Strategist.
Former priest.
Frontline crisis worker.
David Ian Giffen has spent much of his life in rooms where words matter: churches, crisis calls, shelters, studios, hospitals, community meetings, and places where people are trying to be heard while institutions decide whether to listen.
At Authentic Ginger Media, those experiences converge.
Through storytelling, brand coaching, media strategy, podcasting, and public speaking, David helps bold voices find their platform, defend their individuality, and confront bullying, racism, stigma, and institutional silence.
This is not branding for attention.
It is media with a spine.
Born in Glasgow and raised in Canada, David’s work is grounded in lived resilience. After earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from Huron University College at Western University, he spent more than a decade in ordained ministry, working at the intersection of faith, leadership, grief, conflict, and social justice.
That chapter ended publicly and painfully. Rather than retreat from it, David began writing about accountability, trauma, redemption, institutional failure, and the difficult work of rebuilding a life.
Following ministry, he moved into frontline mental-health and community crisis work. His experience has included peer support, crisis response, homelessness services, and case management with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Toronto’s Community Crisis Service, and LOFT Community Services.
That work reinforced a conviction that still defines his approach: people are not problems to be managed. They are human beings who deserve dignity, honesty, and relationship—especially when their lives are falling apart.
David is the author of Redemptive Trauma, host of The Blue-Eyed Devil Podcast, and founder of Authentic Ginger Media. Across essays, interviews, video, speaking, and digital strategy, he explores leadership, mental health, justice, faith, fatherhood, identity, recovery, and what happens when institutions protect themselves instead of the people they serve.
Authentic Ginger began as a refusal to be ashamed of being different. It has grown into a platform for individuality, allyship, courage, and meaningful public conversation.
His work is direct because the subjects demand it.
David works with people and organizations that have something worth saying but need the clarity, confidence, and strategy to say it well.
The goal is not simply visibility.
It is visibility with purpose.
Be recognizable. Be accountable. Be impossible to silence.
